When your pal invites you to a brunch including gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and bottomless mimosas, you don’t say no. And that is exactly what happened this past Sunday as the Backpack Social gang gathered with a couple close friends for “2nd Sunday Brunch” at 33 & Melt in Windermere, FL.
Typically open Tues-Sun from 4-10pm, on the 2nd Sunday of each month this local establishment changes its hours to 11am-8pm to welcome the brunching crowd. No complaints here because 33 & Melt is serving up the cheddar right and offering plenty of gouda options to tempt your taste buds.
With an already solid menu not too much changes when the 2nd Sunday of the month rolls around, but 33 & Melt does give you the option to add egg to your sandwich of choice. If you’re a traditionalist not wanting to stray too far from those plastic-wrapped orange squares of your youth, you’ll probably keep it classically simple with “The Melt”. That is if you consider the combination of cheddar, Swiss, muenster, and mozzarella cheeses to be “simple”. Others may choose to bring home the bacon (in a sense) and go for “The Porkster.” Which begs the question…which is the better part of the sandwich? The melty combo of cheddar and muenster cheeses OR the slow-cooked Kansas City pulled pork beneath it? Regardless, these are the types of debates we want to have on a Sunday. But no matter what your cheesy creation of choice is, it will be accompanied by a dynamite dipper cup of homemade creamy tomato soup. Mm mm good, indeed.
33 & Melt doesn’t leave you hanging with their drink selection either. They have a quality array of rotating crafts beers which under normal circumstances the Backpack Social crew would be drawn to; however, when offered at brunch it is basically required to route yourself to the mimosa bar. (Consider it the economical choice since they are bottomless for only $10!) And don’t worry because your bottomless glass of bubbly won’t get boring since you can customize it with fresh fruit and your choice of grapefruit, cranberry, orange, blueberry/pomegranate, or orange/peach/mango juice. Feel free to be like us and try them all in order to determine your favorite.
It’s hard to go wrong with grilled cheese, but it may be even harder to make grilled cheese memorable; 33 & Melt, however, has done it! If you find yourself in the Windermere/Winter Garden area and are jonesing for a casual yet quality meal, we definitely recommend checking out this “grilled cheese bar”.
